Expressions of interest are invited from forestry and woodland contractors who have the necessary experience and resources to undertake forest management works throughout the North York Moors region. Contracts for tender and negotiation include ground preparation, fencing, gate and barrier installation, restock planting and beat-up, herbicide and pesticide application, tree and scrub clearance, brush-cutting and crop survey.
Previous contracting experience on Forestry Commission land is not a pre-requisite but relevant certification (NPTC/GLA/FMOC) and public liability insurance must be held.

To succeed you need:·
Rural estate management experience (heathland management experience an advantage).

Greenwood Trees is a forest plant wholesaling business located in the Scottish Borders. The business has strong markets for both conifer and broadleaf planting stock. The business is owned by Coillte Nurseries (The Irish Forestry Board) who supply much of the stock sold, but supplementary plant supplies also need to be competitively sourced from UK and Continental European plant producers. There are plans to significantly grow the business.
The business is seeking a dynamic individual to join the Greenwood Trees with a view to playing a vital part in the future development of the business. The initial role will be a business manager but will evolve to take over the sales manager function.
The successful candidate will be working closely alongside an existing sales manager with experience in the UK market. You will have full responsibility for the running of the UK operation supporting the existing Sales Manager and ensuring that the business is run in a proper and controlled manner.
Key Accountabilities
Responsible for the day-to-day running of the business including:-
- management of plant stocks including the sourcing of plant material
- management of customer orders and the subsequent dispatch of plant products in a timely fashion
- management of proper books of account, including the payment of suppliers and collection of business debts
- management of payroll, VAT and other returns relevant to this particular business
It is anticipated that the Business Manager will also build up strong customer relationships, particularly with existing key customers in the UK and play a very substantial role in the marketing of the business and its products in the UK market.
-The position calls for someone with very high energy levels – particularly during the peak of the sales season between November and May of each year.
-Good interpersonal skills and ready ability to deal with both customers and suppliers.
-An attention to detail with very good business management skills.
-Experience of the forest establishment market (particularly in the UK).
- ability to build and maintain a network of contacts and relationships with customers and suppliers critical to the success of the business
- good interpersonal skills in dealing with customers, suppliers and other members of the business team
- strong negotiation skills
- good problem solving skills at a practical level sufficient to drive and deliver on sales and customer service targets
- good business management/administration skills for maintaining proper books of account
- a reasonable technical knowledge of forestry – particularly in regard to forest establishment, forest plant products and EU forest reproductive material regulations
- an ability to identify business trends and develop appropriate marketing and operational strategies to maximise business opportunities and return.
