Unusually, sawchain specialist Oregon had its own stand this year, drawing plenty of attention with a demonstration of its latest cutting system.
“We really wanted to highlight some of the cool things we’ve got going on,” said James Oliver, marketing manager. “Often we’re here supporting our dealers in some form or another, but this year we felt we really wanted to highlight SpeedCut Nano. People in the industry may or may not have heard of it. It’s a new proprietary .325” low profile system, designed to get the most out of your small petrol and battery saws, whether it’s top handle or back handle.
“The best way to convince people of how good it is, is to show them. So we got two identical saws, one running SpeedCut Nano, one running standard 3/8. And the feedback’s been brilliant. The Nano is clearly smoother, faster, better.”
Explaining the development of the SpeedCut Nano, he said: “Our engineers in Portland, Oregon, looked at the cordless issue. It’s a different platform with a different set of problems. 1/4” Pitch 1.1 mm came about, the smallest chain you could possibly get, providing less drag and meaning the battery lasted longer.
“They looked at it from a more technical point of view and decided speed was good but it’s not all about speed. It’s about smoothness, performance in the cut, not bogging down in the cut. The compromise, the sweet spot in the middle of all those things, is SpeedCut Nano.”
