A vacancy has arisen in the forestry department for an additional forestry worker to assist the forestry foreman. the Sandringham Estate is located in West Norfolk, and is privately owned by Her Majesty The Queen. The estate extends to 20,000 acres, of which approximately 3,500 acres is woodland.
A policy of continuous cover forestry has been adopted on the estate and the woodland is divided into two management styles, commercial woodland and amenity/shooting woods. The commercial woodland is thinned using contractors, whilst the amenity woodland tends to be thinned by hand, favouring hardwoods.
Duties will include, but not exclusively:
- Hand thinning of hardwoods
- Cutting of firewood
- Amenity tree work for cottages and houses on the estate
- Planting and management of trees and hedgerows
- Hedge cutting
- Spraying of rhododenron and knotweed
- Assistance with other estate activities as and when required
- Operation of forestry machinery including a forwarder and tractor
The successful candidate will report directly to the forestry foreman and should be prepared to work flexible hours. Experience and accredited certification with chainsaws (CS33), spraying (PA1 & 6) and tractor and forwarder operations are desirable but not essential. The estate provides training and encourages professional development.
