THE Timber Trade Federation (TTF) has published the fifth edition of the Road Haulage of Round Timber Code of Practice.
The aim of the Code of Practice is to improve the efficiency, safety and environmental standards of timber transport and it provides information on achieving best practice in a number of areas, including: transporting timber safely, taking into account road limitations that affect how a road may be used, such as gradients, bends and narrow sections; vehicle specifications, including information on load-weighing devices, overloading and reduced-ground-pressure vehicles; loading and unloading timber safely and securely; biosecurity considerations; and improving roundwood haulage.
The Code of Practice is primarily written for those directly involved, or who have an interest, in the transportation of timber and management of timber haulage.
Hard copies of the document are expected to be made available this month. A digital version is available online now at www.timbertransportforum.org.uk/work/good-practice.
