A NEW woodland area in Glasgow will receive 10,000 additional trees sponsored by a Scots business.
Work for the 20,000-tree native woodland backed by Glasgow City Council got underway last month as primary pupils planted 17,000 trees in the Carmunnock area.
Now Edinburgh-based water retailer, Business Stream, is partnering with no-profit organisation Green Action Trust who support the initiative, to help the woodland expansion.
Business Steam’s sponsorship will contribute 10,000 trees to the project and a volunteering day organised by the company last week has already seen 2,000 trees planted.

The woodland will be created on a 15-hectare site stretching from Linn Park to Cathkin Braes Country Park, becoming Glasgow’s largest green space and local nature reserve.
In addition, the site will be home to the Glasgow Children’s Woodland, a community led initiative run by the Lost Woods project.
Once completed, the new area will be open for the local community and visitors to enjoy and help create a fairer, greener and healthier environment for all Glasgow residents.

“Our primary focus is on reducing our emissions but we also recognise the benefits tree planting programmes, such as this one, can play in not only locking away carbon emissions but also in providing green spaces for local communities.
“We had a great time on Wednesday planting some of the trees and it was good to know that our contribution will help to make a positive difference for many years to come”.
Douglas Worrall, director of service delivery, Green Action Trust, said: “Green Action Trust is delighted that Business Stream are sponsoring the woodland creation work at Cart and Kittoch.
“This project will help to expand the woodland habitat in the area and play a role in mitigating carbon emissions so it’s fantastic to have Business Stream’s support”.
The project is being managed by the Green Action Trust for Glasgow City Council, as part of the current Forestry and Woodland Strategy for Glasgow City Region 2020 plan.
