ONE of the UK's public forestry authorities is recruiting for not one but two key positions. 

Northern Ireland's Forest Service is on the hunt for two forest officers to join its team, playing a crucial role in managing the country's public estate.


Job ad description - Forest Officer 1

Forest Officer I’s are responsible for leading and managing staff in multidisciplinary teams, and resources, in the delivery of Forest Service work programmes.

These duties vary between posts and will include:
• Operational planning, procurement and delivery of forestry work programmes including management of allocated budget and resources and service delivery through partner providers.
• Stewardship of assets and sustainable management of public forest estate including marketing and timber production, forest recreation and environmental benefit.
• Contribution to development and implementing of forest policies, strategies, best practice Standards and certification requirements.
• Management of data collection and analysis on the productivity and condition of forests and overseeing production of forest management plans to meet relevant legislative and strategic objectives.
• Delivery of forestry regulation and forestry grant schemes programmes, including environmental impact assessments, felling regulations and technical assessments.


Job ad description - Forest Officer II

Forest Officer IIs are responsible for leading and managing staff and resources in the delivery of operational areas of forestry work programmes. These duties vary between posts, and will include:

• Implementing forestry regulation, including environmental impact assessment, felling regulation and plant health statutory controls and management of grant-aid schemes.
• Developing and managing relationships with customers, stakeholders, contractors and operational partners through engagement and consultation.
• Developing forest management plans and engaging with Departmental business areas and external stakeholders including Councils.
• Providing advice, drafting and technical input to machinery of government, policy development and strategic planning.
• Planning forestry operations and programmes including managing procurement, budgets and resources and coordination of activities to secure public safety and protection of forest estate and assets.
• Collecting and analysing data to support business and forestry planning, surveying, timber supply, disease control via IT systems (including GIS) and stakeholder engagement information.
• Promoting a positive culture of health and safety and wellbeing in the workplace.
