ASSISTANT FORESTER, NORTH SCOTLAND


A new opportunity has arisen to join a well-established, successful and growing team within an independent firm of Rural Practice Chartered Surveyors in Moray. Covering the whole of the north of Scotland, the team manage a number of estates and advise clients on a wide range of rural consultancy matters.

The position, tasked with strengthening the team further, offers autonomy, a high level of responsibility, and a varied and interesting workload including SRDP applications, woodland management, GIS mapping projects, timber harvesting and certification, general contract management and supervision. Duties will also include taking afforestation proposals from site survey through to completion of the appropriate grant applications. Currently, our foresters deal with all aspects of such applications, including preparation of plans and budgets, meetings with various consultees. Upon receipt of approval from the Scottish Forestry or any other appropriate agencies for each application, our assistant forester will be expected to obtain competitive quotations for all fencing and planting materials together with contract work, co-ordinate delivery of materials/plants and then provide detailed administration on the ground of all establishment work to ensure that each scheme is completed on time, on budget and to a high standard.

Our ideal candidate will have completed (or be about to complete) a recognised forestry degree/ diploma and will have up to two years’ work experience in the forestry industry, although applications from candidates with more or less experience are also welcome. They will be confident working on their own initiative as well as being able to work well within a small team. They will be energetic and hands-on with an empathy for the rural environment.
