ASSISTANT FORESTRY MANAGER

£26,000 per annum, plus pension and benefits
Full time 40 hours per week Monday – Friday

Castle Howard Estate is located in the picturesque area of outstanding natural beauty that is the Howardian Hills in North Yorkshire. The Estate is a varied mix of arable and pastural farmland, the House and grounds, Estate villages and some of the premier traditional mixed woodland in the country. The woodland consists of 2000 acres and is a diverse mix of species and age classes. The woodlands are managed for a variety of uses including commercial timber production, sporting, landscape quality and amenity and education. With regards to the Tree and Shrub Nursery, a traditional operation is currently run and provides both hardwood and softwood tree saplings to the wider estate and regional customers throughout the season.

The Estate’s woodlands currently consists of commercial coniferous plantations to maginificent mature oakwoods and we are looking for an Assistant Forestry Manager to support the management of the forestry department. The succesful candidate will assist with woodland management plans and grant programme of works and operational duties including the felling and delivery of logs. They will also be responsible for all aspects of tree safety across the Estate. The successful candidate will have an extensive experience of manging within the forestry or woodland industry and hold relevant forestry qualifications. They will be able to work on their own initiative and have a systematic and cheerful approach to their duties.
