DEPUTY EDITOR

Forestry Journal is the UK’s leading independent publication for the forestry industry. Since 1994, it has been delivering all the latest news, opinions, and analysis to keep readers up to date, with detailed reports covering all aspects of this diverse sector (from tree nurseries and planting to harvesting machinery and sawmills), along with features that both inform and entertain.

It is now looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic, and energetic journalist to become its new Deputy Editor.

Joining a small but dedicated editorial team and working directly with the Managing Editor, the Deputy Editor will be responsible for ensuring the magazine and its sister title EssentialARB go to press on time and to an exceptionally high standard.

Your main duty will be gathering and preparing content from freelance contributors and external parties for the publications, as well as writing features, subbing magazine pages and uploading content to our digital platforms.

As such, you’ll require exceptional spelling and grammar, an eye for detail and the ability to cross-check information from a variety of sources.

A driving licence and passport are essential as, where necessary, you’ll also be expected to attend shows, conferences, and press events, some outside the UK.

Desired skills and experience:

• A proven track record of editing material for a print or online title
• Superb editing and writing skills, and an eye for detail
• Excellent communication, organisational and teamwork skills
• Willingness to work flexibly, when necessary, either to get the magazine to press or to represent the brand at events or press trips
• Existing knowledge of forestry or arboriculture not essential, but would be an advantage
• In return we offer a competitive salary and a great working environment, with tremendous opportunities for advancement.

Interviews may be conducted over Microsoft Teams.

To apply please send your current CV and cover letter including current salary/salary expectations.
