FOREST MANAGER


Location: Flexible within Scotland (requirement to travel)
Hours: Full time
Salary: £35,500 – £45,200 dependent upon experience (plus benefits and company car)

We are looking to develop the forests we own in Scotland while still aiming to continue growing in the UK, with focus on Scotland, and are therefore looking for a new colleague who is ready to be challenged and to be part of our team.


Role Objective
We are looking for a Forest Manager, who will be responsible for the practical management of our forests. As we are continually growing, the Forest Manager will have to deal with a constantly moving target and be happy to use their entrepreneurial skills in order to deliver the set budgets and returns, as well as to manage our forests to the highest standard.

The Forest Manager will report to the Director of GGT1.


Key Responsibilities
• Ensuring our forests are run effectively and efficiently, while ensuring best practices for sustainable forest management, environmental protection, and health and safety standards are being followed at all times
• Help us find greater business use of our forests where relevant, including renewables development opportunities
• Procure and monitor harvesting services looking to deliver optimal cash returns from our forests
• Tender and monitor our wood sales
• Procure and monitor other services such as e.g., soil preparation and planting, looking to ensure optimal quality of service at the right cost
• Always look to think out of the box in order to find better optimization of the value and processes in our forest management
• Will cover the whole of Scotland and will have to visit our forests regularly


Required Skills and Experience
We’re looking for someone who:

• Is driven, proactive, able to work autonomously and shows initiative with the desire to add value
• Works well in a fast-paced environment and is able to work on several tasks at the same time with tight deadlines
• Is social and able to communicate effectively in a multi-cultural setting
• Has an Entrepreneurial mindset


In addition to this, you’ll have:

• Relevant academic qualifications/be Forestry qualified
• Operational experience
• A professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or other relevant professional body is desirable
• Relevant experience of forest management including contractor management
• Good knowledge of the UK Forestry Standard and UKWAS
• Experience of timber marketing
• Strong client relationship management experience
• Experience in managing contractors
• Competent in GIS and Excel
• Happy to travel regularly and holds a valid full UK Driver’s Licence
