FULL TIME ESTATE WORKER

A vacancy has arisen for a full-time estate worker to work within our existing estate team. Day to day tasks vary from forestry-style work using chainsaws, firewood processing and tree planting. Ground maintenance with strimmer’s, flail mowers, post knocker and knapsack sprayer.

The successful applicant must be trained to a minimum level of NPTC units CS30 and 31, hold a full UK Drivers Licence and have some experience driving agricultural machinery. Additional relevant experience and certificates would be advantageous, particularly in spraying and fencing. The role is varied so you must be able to adapt to working in different areas from day to day. This is a very physical hands-on job good stamina and a can-do attitude are essential. We are a small, tight team with many varied skills enabling us to tackle the challenges that working on a country estate can bring.

JOB SPECIFICATION
Responsible To: Forestry Foreman
Location: Based at Sawmill, Marholm

Nature of the role
To undertake tasks set out by the Forestry Foreman which could be within the park or on the wider Estate. This will include all aspects of estate forestry and general estate maintenance.

Key Duties
1. The Estate team carry out the following functions: -
a. Woodlands
i. Ride maintenance and swiping
ii. Hedge cutting
iii. Replanting
iv. Maintenance of new plantings
v. Some thinning and felling
b. Parkland
i. Tree maintenance
ii. New plantings and tree shelters
iii. Fencing
iv. Maintenance of hunt jumps
v. HLS works
c. Estate property and grounds maintenance
i. Vacant properties
ii. Maintenance of trees adjacent to public highways and in other risk areas
iii. Clearing windblow
iv. Responding to other unplanned maintenance tasks
d. Sundry Tasks
i. Logs and delivery to estate staff
ii. Christmas trees - cutting and delivery to local schools and churches

Person
• Aptitude for machinery maintenance
• Ability to manually lift loads of up to 25kg in a safe manner
• Willingness to work as part of a team under supervision and direction and able to work on their own
• Willingness to take on a variety of tasks and be flexible when faced with competing demands on time
• Comfortable with country sports
• Capable of working to high quality standards
• Awareness and appreciation of safety issues

Terms Offered
Salary: Dependent on experience (payable monthly on 20th)
Pension: Auto enrolment, 3 months deferred. Additional employer contributions payable from 1st December following completion of two years’ service.
Life Assurance: Group policy provides four times salary
Accident Insurance: Inclusion in a policy covering accidents at work with varying (modest) levels of benefit.
Notice to terminate: During initial 6-month trial period one week either way, thereafter not less than one month notice either side except in the case of gross misconduct.
Holiday: 31 days to include Public Holidays. Public holidays on a normal working day will count towards this total and shall be taken as holiday unless expressly agreed otherwise. Holidays to be approved by the employer in advance.
Christmas Break: 3 days holiday to be taken between Christmas and New Year in addition to public holidays.
Other Terms: Generally, in accordance with the Staff Handbook, as attached, where not inconsistent with the above.
Hours of Work: 39 hour working week
7.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday
7.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. on Friday with half-hour taken for morning break and lunch (unpaid). Overtime: Occasional overtime may be required.
