HEAD OF SCHOOL:
FORESTRY AND THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT

35 Hours (1 FTE), Permanent contract

Salary: £52,530 per annum

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated Head of School to manage our School of Forestry and the Built Environment. We are looking for a candidate who can manage an emerging and growing area. This is an excellent opportunity to integrate Forestry and the Built Environment and lead the school in a new and collaborative direction.

Inverness College UHI provides education to approximately 6,600 students across SCQF levels 4-11. The newly formed School of Forestry and the Built Environment has approximately 700 students studying at SCQF levels 4-11. Qualifications provided by the School of Forestry and the Built Environment can be obtained through full-time and part-time study including apprenticeships. As pioneers of work-based education the school delivers a wide range of foundation, modern, and graduate apprenticeship programmes from SCQF 6-10.

As Head of School of Forestry and the Built Environment you will be based between our Inverness and Balloch Campuses, and you will manage a range of tertiary curriculum, leading on all aspects of quality assurance, operational management and curriculum development. In addition, you will engage with opportunities to grow the schools’ involvement with innovation and research.

You will work with other Heads of School and Tertiary Education Leaders to champion our vision, Ambitious, Bold and Creative, motivating teams to excel in all that we do. Our students learning experience and achievement will be the key driver and focus within your role.

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a suitably skilled person who enjoys management, teaching, learning and curriculum development to work within our School of Forestry and the Built Environment.

You will be required to manage, develop, and design curriculum in an innovative manner with a focus on the sectors’ best practice.

• Leadership and Management of School of Forestry and the Built Environment
• Business Planning and Resource Management
• Leadership and Development of teams
• Leadership of Teaching, Learning and Research
• Data management including Quality and Enhancement Plan
• Curriculum design and development
• Collaborative working with other schools to maximise opportunities for inter-disciplinary working
• Professional Practice and Development

Essential Criteria:

• A degree or Postgraduate qualification.
• Have relevant education leadership and management experience.
• Experience of leading change within organisations.
• Be a member or working towards membership of professional body.
• Demonstrable connections with industry bodies and sectors.
• Have current and relevant evidence of CPD.

You should also be flexible, reflective, innovative, creative, and personally committed to continuing vocational and professional development.

You should possess effective interpersonal skills and have good IT skills in applications such as MS Office and other relevant subject related software packages.
