Are you looking for an exciting and rewarding opportunity to help deliver Scotland’s climate change and sustainable growth ambitions? Would you like to work in a newly established, friendly and inclusive organisation that supports and regulates the care and management of Scotland’s 1.4 million hectares of forests

Scottish Forestry, a new executive agency of Scottish Government, was established in April 2019 to take on the work of Forestry Commission Scotland. We are looking for a senior leader to join our Senior Executive Team and help lead and shape our business moving forward.

Salary: £63,146 - £69,920
Working Hours: 37 hours per week, flexible working patterns will be considered
Contract Type: Permanent
Location: Edinburgh

We are looking for an ambitious and innovative person, who is passionate about sustainable natural resource management, to take a lead role in delivering Scotland’s forestry priorities through the provision of quality evidence and advice, and the development of sustainable forest management standards.

Scottish Forestry supports the delivery of the Scottish Government’s priorities for forestry, through guidance, advice, incentives and regulations, and by advising Ministers on forestry policy. Our work impacts on people, local communities, businesses and a diverse range of environments across Scotland and beyond.

You will be focused on how best we can achieve agreed social, economic and environmental outcomes by leading our Standards, Evidence and Expertise team. You and your team will provide advice to ministers, government, stakeholders and partners on all aspects of the UK Forestry Standard and will improve the Scottish Government’s evidence base on sustainable forest management and tree health.

This unique role offers a wide variety of responsibilities and opportunities beyond the direct technical function described above, including corporate leadership – working directly with the CEO, other senior leaders and non-executives. As part of the Senior Executive Team, you will ensure that Scottish Government priorities and organisational responsibilities are delivered to the highest standard, and will help foster a high-performing, collaborative and inclusive organisational culture, dedicated to achieving the best for Scotland’s forests and the people who interact with them.

We strongly believe in an inclusive and supportive work culture and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds regardless of ethnicity, beliefs, disability, social background, marital status, age or sexual orientation.

So if you have experience in land use, an appetite for innovation and leadership, and are looking for a new challenge, here’s your chance to help shape the future of forestry in Scotland.
