TIMBER HARVESTER OPERATOR (THINNINGS)


McKeever Forestry is seeking to recruit a full time, permanent Timber Harvester Operator (Thinnings).


Responsible to/Reporting to: Forest Works Manager


Outline of Post:
As a key member of a small forestry team working under the direction of the Forest Works Manager, you will operate a purpose built JD1170G timber harvester to carry out thinning operations throughout Northern Ireland. You will be responsible for carrying out works in accordance with health and safety procedures in relation to yourself, other team members and the general public at all times.


Terms of Work:
Salary: Attractive salary package depending on skill level and experience
Status: Full time, Permanent (following satisfactory 6 month probation period)
Holidays: 28 days (including statutory days); made up of 23 set days, 5 floating days booked in advance as required.


Main Duties:
• Operation of a purpose built timber harvester to carry out thinnings work and some clearfell work as & when required.
• Operational monitoring and management of machine.
• Working to harvesting spec.
• On-going product inspections.
• Calibration of machine.
• Responsible for routine machine maintenance, service and breakdown management.
• Work in a correct & safe manner; proactively comply with all the Company’s Health and Safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures so as to ensure the safety yourself, other team members and the general public at all times.
• Work productively to ensure performance targets are met.
• Regular reporting of machine production and downtime information.
• Adhere to all forest and environmental controls, rules and regulations.
• Maintain general site organisation and tidiness.
• Assist in safe movement of machinery between operational sites.
• Assist with preparation of machinery in new operational sites.
• Communicate and work with other members of the forestry team.
• Participate in training relevant to the post and assist in the training of other staff as & when required.
• Participate in site and Company meetings.
• Participate in Lean improvement activities.
• Any other such duties which are in keeping with the main purpose of this role.


Essential criteria:

• Minimum 2 years timber harvesting experience
• FMOC harvesting qualification or equivalent
• EFAW + F or equivalent
• Full driving licence
• Access to own vehicle for travel to, from & within forest sites
• Good health & safety awareness
• Prepared to work in challenging environments and conditions
• Ability to work to harvesting specifications
• Good level of spoken and written English
• Good numeracy and communication skills
• Possess the ability to work on your own initiative, be flexible, hardworking, reliable and conscientious
