WOODLAND CONSULTANT / MANAGER

Salary bracket: £30,000 to £40,000 depending on experience.


Land and Heritage are keen to recruit an experienced woodland manager to support existing and new clients across southern England. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player with good managerial skills, who will be committed to the sustainable growth of the company.

Our team have been involved in woodland management and woodland creation in Devon and Cornwall for over thirty-five years. We have acted as forestry consultants for a wide range of landowners in both public, voluntary and private sectors. Our woodland management has always had a strong conservation and recreation focus, and we can also bring commercial forestry to the table when required.

Land and Heritage has a multi-disciplinary team of ecologists, landscape architects, arboriculturalists and heritage experts. We currently work from an office base at Mount Edgecumbe House, Torpoint, with staff also working remotely via MS Teams and Office 365.

Our Woodland Manager should be proficient in as many of the following skills as possible:
• Woodland survey and mapping. Compartment and sub compartment creation
• Timber mensuration for forecasting, standing and roadside sales
• Preparation of management plans for existing woodlands for famers and landowners
• Completion of FC and CS proformas, online felling licences etc
• GIS mapping for the above
• Good report writing skills
• Design for new planting, EWCO and CS applications
• Environmental impact assessments and consultations. Biodiversity Net Gain calculations
• Carbon assessments and sequestration sales
• Other Natural Capital evaluations and assessments as required
• Presenting work to contractors and negotiating contract prices
• Supervising tree planting and harvesting teams
• Liaising with in house contract delivery team
• Maintenance of new woodlands yrs 1 – 5
• Providing support for tendering and pricing projects
• Liaising with landowners, agents, suppliers and contractors on a daily basis
• Experience of working in partnership with statutory agencies or local authorities
• Supporting marketing activities and events

This is a senior position with scope for further progression within the company. Salary will be commensurate with experience and will include performance bonuses. We are committed to staff professional development through training and mentoring. Candidates should be existing members of a professional body (CIEEM, ICF etc) or be working towards membership.
