A Polish tree nicknamed Heart of the Garden has been crowned the 2024 European Tree of the Year.

The monumental common beech tree grows in an old park in the University of Wroclaw's botanical garden. It's the third Polish tree in a row to win, securing nearly 15,000 votes more than the second-placed Weeping Beech of Bayeux of France.

Third spot was taken by Italy's thousand-year-old Olive Tree of Luras, while the UK entry, Wrexham's sweet chestnut in Acton Park, came in tenth place.
