AREA MANAGER

Based: Sandbank office, Dunoon, Cowal and Kintyre Area, North Scotland Region.


Tilhill, the UK’s leading forestry management company, has an exciting opportunity for you to be a key senior member of our North Scotland Region team in the role of Area Manager.

Reporting to the North Scotland Regional Manager you will join four other Area Managers across the Region. Each lead their Area business units to effectively manage existing client properties, to develop and deliver woodland creation opportunities, and to demonstrate leadership and influence with stakeholders, promoting the interests of our clients, Tilhill and our profession.

The existing team of forest managers are responsible for managing a significant portfolio of mature forests extending to over 20,000 ha plus a number of woodland creation projects. You will be responsible for delivering the agreed targets for the Area’s business with your team, ensuring that properties and contracts are managed in accordance with the client’s objectives and good silvicultural standards.

The role requires building sound client relationships, leading and developing the existing team of managers effectively, and delivering operational standards in accordance with the Company’s Assurance Management System, whilst maintaining direct responsibility for larger client properties and more complex contracts. This generally involves the preparation of client estimates, production of reports, implementation and control of work programmes and grant applications.

Ideally, we are looking for the following skills and experience:

• Relevant academic qualifications.
• At least 8 years’ operational experience as a forest manager, including successful delivery of larger, more complex projects or contracts.
• Strong commercial acumen to run a profitable business.
• Experience of managing and effectively leading teams.
• Effective negotiating, influencing, organisational, communication and IT skills.
• Good knowledge of the UK Forestry Standard and UKWAS.
• Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters.

Alongside these attributes, candidates need to be highly motivated, driven, enthusiastic, reliable and adaptable, and possess a full driving licence.
