COMMUNITY AND STUDENT ENGAGEMENT MANAGER

We are looking for a Community and Student Engagement Manager to independently co-ordinate and autonomously deliver to the local community a high quality, self-starting & comprehensive community engagement function on behalf of the Forests, Peatlands and Rural Land Manager, Director of SRS and the University, ensuring that all work undertaken is processed efficiently, completely and delivered within the required timescales. To also engage with University students and staff to promote engagement with, and use of the forests and land assets.

The Opportunity:
Purposes of the role include liaising with project colleagues, contractors and partners and the local community to promote the establishment and operation of new initiatives in carbon reduction, teaching & learning, tourism & leisure, greenspace health, small scale renewables and rural land management, as necessary to underpin and sustainably and sensitively deliver the University’s carbon reduction strategy and goal of becoming a net zero carbon university by 2040.

The post-holder will liaise with the local community and to all intents and purposes will be the ‘face’ of the University to the community, and the main channel through which the community would engage with the University.

Your Skills and Attributes for Success:
• Experience of high quality and effective community engagement, particularly in the area of new business or projects in a rural setting.
• An understanding of forestry, environment, land use and related issues, including whole-system effects and the potential impacts on / interdependency with, local communities.
• Proven experience in organising and leading conservation work and events for students, schools and the public.
• Proven experience in consultation management including updating web page information, producing videos and events materials.
• Fundamentally you should be passionate about forestry, wildlife and the natural environment.
