Forestry England are seeking skilled forest operatives to fill Forest Craftsperson vacancies in East England Forest District. There are six posts available, four in Thetford Forest and two in the Sandlings & Lavenham Beat.

We depend on our Craftspeople to meet high standards whilst working remotely to complete tasks ranging from large-scale tree planting programmes to fixing broken signs, so the successful applicants will be flexible and adaptable practical thinkers. They will be willing and able to work equally productively on their own or in collaboration with others.

A Craftsperson’s job is outdoors in all seasons, demanding physical and mental resilience. They work closely with the Beat Forester, Work Supervisor to support and achieve Beat programmes and projects efficiently and effectively.

Typical tasks will include, establishment and site maintenance undertaking tree planting, weeding and cleaning of restock sites and fence installation and repair. Estate/Recreation facility maintenance including installation and repair of signs, gates, barriers, picnic tables. Other broad areas of work will include Conservation and Heritage site maintenance, surveys and monitoring.

A full driving licence is essential along with NPTC or equivalent chainsaw licence and some experience in its use.
