FOREST, PEAT AND RURAL LAND MANAGER

Salary: £53,348 - £60,022 per annum

Closing Date: 7th January 2022

Edinburgh University is seeking an experienced forest, peat, and rural land manager to lead a brand new team and provide sector-leading expertise.

This position requires a special blend of communication skills, practical nous and sound forest knowledge. The ideal candidate will be equally happy working directly with local communities and planting teams, as well as with discussing carbon challenges with researchers and scientists.

The University’s ambitious climate change targets will require partnership working, and the applicant will need experience in negotiating positive outcomes and long term contracts with a wide range of landowners and managers including community organisations, NGOs and the private sector. There will also be the opportunity to design and deliver the University’s own exemplar of sustainable forest and land management.

This role is a unique opportunity to make a difference at scale, and to develop sustainable land use projects which help support resilient communities as well as resilient landscapes, and grow the timber we need to decarbonise our economies.
