FORESTRY AND GROUNDS SUPERVISOR


Location: Glen Tanar Estate, Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, AB34 5EU


Full-Time Permanent Role (Accommodation Included) - 5 days a week with some flexible working at weekends and evenings.


Glen Tanar Estate is a privately owned 10,000 hectare (25,000 acre) diverse working estate. The main land-uses on the estate are roughly 50% moorland, 40% forest and 10% farmland. With around 4,000 hectares of forest annual production of timber is 7,000 tonnes, for a wide range of markets. The Forest of Glen Tanar is both an ancient forest, with Scotland’s third largest Native Pinewood, and a growing resource, with further significant expansion planned.


The estate also has interests in tourism and outdoor activities, property, farming and conservation. Glen Tanar Estate employs 15 full-time staff, including the Forestry Supervisor, and gets strategic forest management support from RTS Ltd.


Purpose of the Role:

The Forestry Supervisor will manage a small in-house team of forestry and estate workers, focusing on establishment and maintenance tasks, to deliver the estate's forestry plans and scheduled grounds work. They will also act as the Forestry Works Manager managing establishment, harvesting, haulage, liaising with plant contractors, and all other operations within their area of responsibility.


About you:
To be successful in this role you will be passionate about forestry and have good leadership and communication skills. You will have appropriate forestry qualifications and relevant experience, including operation and maintenance of equipment.


You will be able to manage resources, plan and deliver work programs and be good at problem solving. You will be able to work on your own initiative, within a management team and supervise others.


Competence with standard IT packages and using computerised mapping tools including GPS, GIS/qGIS will be an advantage.


Training:

The estate has an active training program and supports the development of all staff.
